Before we discuss how to educate the public about sustainable architecture, we first need to know what it is. "Sustainable architecture is architecture that seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space." In other words, sustainable architecture is creating structured for future generations to come but in a way that preserves and reduces the amount of resources needed.

The straight forward approach as to educating the public of sustainable architecture is simply by getting the word out. This can mean ideas such as meetings, brochures, anything that can be given to people which they will look at and want to learn about. One of the hardest tactics seems to be getting people to be motivated to want to learn about sustainable architecture. The best way to do this would be by giving them an incentive. Letting people know that they have a voice in the decisions that are made will make them want to learn more.

For the community to want to learn about sustainable architecture they have to know that their voice matters. As if, they are not being told what is going to happen in legislation, but are able to vote on what they think is the best decision for an idea. The public is affected the most by any political decisions that are made. With this idea in mind, letting the public know that their votes, ideas, and opinions will be kept in mind and affect how a law is voted upon will give them more of an incentive to want to learn about how they will be affected first hand by sustainable architecture.

Overall, getting the word out is the best way to let communities become aware of sustainable architecture. Providing them with something physical to read or hand out will let the information become easier to process. To educate the public, there first need to be experts on this topic who are willing to let their voice be heard. It would not be hard to educate others about sustainable architecture once the benefits and drawbacks are discussed.

Sustainable architecture is not a far stretched idea. It is something that is feasible for the future of design. As long as the people are constantly learning and being told about sustainable architecture then it is a very possible thing to be more popular in the future.
